My name is INUWA LUCKY YAWAT, a poultry farmer based in Jos, Plateau State, and I am profoundly grateful for the life-changing opportunity to participate in the MTN
Foundation Skills Training Program under the AI and Automation for Business Operations track, generously sponsored by MTN Nigeria.
Before this program, my poultry farm operated almost entirely on manual systems. Daily feed consumption, egg collection, mortality records, vaccination schedules, customer orders,
and payments were all tracked in notebooks and random pieces of paper. This approach was slow, prone to mistakes, made it hard to notice patterns early, and seriously limited
my ability to grow the business or reliably supply larger customers such as hotels, restaurants, and retailers in Jos and surrounding areas.
The MTN Foundation AI and Automation training completely changed how I run my farm.
Through the program, I gained practical, hands-on knowledge of how to apply affordable AI and automation tools to solve everyday challenges faced by small-scale farmers
and agri-business owners in Nigeria. Among many valuable skills, I particularly gained working knowledge on how to use Canva AI to create professional designs, something
I never imagined I could do without hiring a graphic designer or spending a lot of money.
I learned how to:
– Use Canva’s AI-powered tools (Magic Studio features) to quickly generate attractive flyers, posters, product labels, WhatsApp status updates, and promotional graphics for my
eggs, point-of-lay pullets, and broilers
– Create eye-catching designs for small businesses in Jos and beyond
– Design simple price lists, order forms, and customer thank-you cards that look modern and trustworthy
– Automate daily farm record-keeping for feed, eggs, mortality, and bird growth using mobile-friendly tools
– Set up automated reminders for vaccinations, deworming, feed orders, and customer follow-ups
– Build basic WhatsApp Business chatbots that answer common customer questions about availability, pricing, and delivery even when I’m busy on the farm
Because the training emphasized low-cost, mobile-first, and low-bandwidth solutions, everything I learned was immediately usable here in Jos.
The results on my farm have been clear and encouraging:
– I now spend less than two hours a day on paperwork and admin tasks (previously it consumed most of my mornings)
– Vaccination and medication delays have become almost non-existent, leading to lower mortality and healthier birds
– Using Canva AI designs, my promotional materials now look far more professional, customers have commented that my farm now “looks serious and reliable,
” which has increased trust and repeat orders
– Response time to customer inquiries has improved dramatically thanks to automated replies and better-looking marketing content
– I can confidently accept and plan for larger weekly orders of eggs and broilers because I have clearer visibility of production trends
– During recent peak periods, I was able to scale supply more smoothly without the usual last-minute stress
This training did not just teach me tools, it gave me better control, more professional presentation, extra time, and the confidence to grow my farm into a more modern
and profitable business.

things that felt complicated into simple, powerful solutions I could start using right away.
